VITA SCHOLARS

Scholar training covers all of what is in the New Volunteer Orientation and so much more!

Lesson 1: UNDERSTAND WHAT INCOME TAX IS &  WHAT VITA IS
Broken up into smaller recordings to make viewing easier

DAY 1 PART 1 - WHAT ARE TAXES- WHAT ARE INCOME TAXES, AND WHAT IS VITA?  14 MIM
Picture
DAY 1 PART 2  - Dependents and Filing Status 31 MIN
*In the LIVE class- I had the students looking at the decision tree and charts and telling me what information they needed to  know for each scenario in order to determine correct filing status or if someone qualifies as a dependent. -- but since the viewer cannot respond -- I provide the questions/answers.  If you are viewing these.. pause the video and try to figure it out on your own before I give it away.
You will learn more that way and prove just how smart you are!

Please note: I, Mary Meador, AM NOT a certified accountant or tax law expert. I volunteer with VITA providing free tax preparation for individuals and families whose income is less than $66,000 a year. We deal with simple returns at our sites.  I cannot guarantee the accuracy of all the information on this site as tax laws change and I may not have a clear understanding of complicated issues. I am trying to provide basic tax preparation information for our volunteers to get started--remember Publication 4012 is your go-to resource for questions, as well as irs.gov and Publication 17.  I hope you find this information useful and easy to understand. Thanks for being a VITA/TCE volunteer!
**I am human, so if you find a mistake, please let me know so I can fix it--we are all in this together**
