Basic Test, Advanced Test, Intake Interview, Military, Foreign Student all have known errors in the print and online version--CLICK IMAGE TO SEE KNOWN ERRORS
|
Note: Remember, the tests are open book and not-timed, and you are not required to memorize anything, because you have to be able, in real life, to know how to look up information & how to ask questions. I strongly suggest reviewing the material found on either: so you can become familiar with the different tax forms, situations, credits, laws, changes etc. If you have at least exposed yourself to everything you will FEEL and BE more confident—and it will show.
I know everyone wants to do accurate returns and be the best tax-preparers they can be, and that is why I created these tools. For you to have a resource that will guide you to information you need. If you have questions, you can always contact me—I am here to help. Have a great training season! |
Basic Scenario 7 - page 42, shows a SSA-1099 with $15,000 in box 3 and $12,000 in box 5. (there is no entry in box 4). The correct value for Box 5 is $15,000
|
Advanced SCENARIO 7 1099-R missing EIN # for payer I am using 33-1000000
Advanced Scenario 8 Schedule C Business Miles should be entered in only 1 box, software still showing 2 boxes. |
Once you have completed answering all the test questions in your book(or on paper), before you submit online on the IRS certification site, input your answers in these online forms to check your work. Feedback is given--if you get a question incorrect, it will guide you to the resource you should review. Remember, this is all about learning so we can do the best for our clients.
As always, if you find an error, have a suggestion, don't understand something, or need help, please feel free to contact me at maryvitataxes@gmail.com If Your answers don't match mine and you review yours and think I am wrong-- please email me. I might be wrong, let's discuss it. I am human after all and I do make mistakes. Tip: In Practice Lab, the Summary/Print screen is not always aligned correctly--it is best to click the icon above the summary page that says view/print return--then click the large button that says Print your return-- this PDF that generates shows all the schedules and forms and the values are where they should be. ***Thank you GEORGE S HUBCHAK for being my Quality Reviewer for these!*** |

Please note: I, Mary Meador, AM NOT a certified accountant or tax law expert. I volunteer with VITA providing free tax preparation for individuals and families whose income is less than $66,000 a year. We deal with simple returns at our sites. I cannot guarantee the accuracy of all the information on this site as tax laws change and I may not have a clear understanding of complicated issues. I am trying to provide basic tax preparation information for our volunteers to get started--remember Publication 4012 is your go-to resource for questions, as well as irs.gov and Publication 17. I hope you find this information useful and easy to understand. Thanks for being a VITA/TCE volunteer!
